Kohima, November 8: Visiting team from Mon district, Tehok Football Club today emerged as the new champions of 5th Capt. N Kengruse Memorial Football Tournament organized by Inspector General of Assam Rifles at Indira Gandhi Stadium here.
Playing a closely contested final match of the tourney, Tehok FC came from behind to defeat Head Hunters of 164 Territorial Army (Naga) by 2-1.
It was Head Hunter’s defender Mezizoto scoring the goal first in the 38th minute to lead the first half. But, after the lemon break, Tehok FC returned strong with the much needed equalizer coming through the boots of Shamba Samson in 47th minute while the deadlock was broken with an excellent volley shot by defender Wapang in 77th minute to life the trophy.
Winning the tournament, Tehok FC received Rs 1.8 lakh with trophy, citation and medals while runners-up Head Hunters got Rs 80,000 with trophy, medals and citations.
Former champion Naga FC, who were placed third in this edition received Rs 30,000 and Upper Khomi FC, Phek got Rs 20,000 as fourth place.
The individual awardees were: Best Custodian – P Angki Kenyale of Tehok FC Mon, Golden Boot – Avilhou Yhome of Naga FC with 8 goals, Most Valuable Player – Kudahu Dzudo of Upper Khomi FC Phek and Best Official – Kikrukhrielie Rutsa of Naga FC. They received Rs 9000 each.
Nagaland Chief Secretary Temjen Toy graced the valedictory function as the special guest and also distributed the awards to the winners along with IGAR(N) PC Nair and father of Late Capt N Kenguruse, Neisielie Kenguruse. (Page News Service)
