Teenagers reminded about sexual abstinence to prevent teenage pregnancy

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 15: Around 800 teenagers of various schools of Longleng Town were reminded that sexual abstinence is “one absolute method” to prevent teenage pregnancy.


A DIPR bulletin on Monday stated that an awareness programme on teenage pregnancy was conducted at Longleng Town Baptist Church on November 13, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme.
It was organised by the the Mahila Shakti Kendra and District administration, Longleng, in collaboration with Nagaland State AIDS Control Society, Longleng and Longleng Town Baptist Church.
DSRC counsellor at District Hospital, Lithei Phom and Literature Secretary at PBCA Longleng, Chingong Phom were the resource persons, it stated.
Lithei Phom spoke on the three topics: definition, causes & prevention of teenage pregnancy.
She said that the main reason for high rate of teenage pregnancy is inadequate sex education and one absolute method to prevent pregnancy among teenagers is sexual abstinence.
Chingong Phom spoke on moral ethics. She advised the students not to be influenced by peer pressure/bad company, to choose healthy life, to avoid early marriages.
Asserting that it will be difficult to live in a society where there is criticism for every little act, she challenged the students to be different and live life with dignity and achieve their goal with a difference.


Women Welfare Officer MSK-DLCW, Longleng, P Phungla encouraged the students to take such programme seriously.
Around 800 students of various schools of Longleng Town, in the age group of 13 to 19 years, attended the awareness programme. (Page News Service)
