Teachers oriented on English language skills

Dimapur, May 8: The Nagaland Board of School Education in collaboration with Headword Publications organized English language skill orientation programme for secondary school teachers on May 7&8 at Don Bosco Institute of Development & Leadership, Dimapur and Capital Convention Centre, Kohima. Altogether 262 English teachers attended the programme at Dimapur and Kohima. The teachers got the opportunity to interact with the resource person on areas related to English teaching.
Resource Person Alka Rai from Headword Publications addressed the problems that language teachers face in the classroom. She made them aware of the importance of developing teachers’ 21st century skills with focus on communication skills and use of their English textbooks.
The objective, she said, is to enable our young learners to be ready for the socio-economic world which demands that they are proficient with these skills.
To enable the teachers, she gave them lesson plan based on a lesson from their textbook and analyzed how it focused on the acquisition of these skills. Amongst the many activities she conducted, she made the teachers go through the speaking skills with special stress on developing phonological skills.
The Board plans to take it forward with more such orientation programmes for teachers, said an official release.
