Heroin seized in Mizoram; 1 arrested

Aizawl, May 22: Heroin worth Rs 12 crore in the international market was seized from a vehicle in Mizoram on Monday and a boy has been arrested in this connection, police said. Acting on a tip-off, a CID (Special Branch) team of the Aizawl Police intercepted a truck at Tawngtaimual Zemabawk near here, a statement issued by the police said. New species of flying gecko found in Mizoram; named after state

Aizawl, May 16: A team of researchers from Mizoram University and Max Planck Institute for Biology in Germany have discovered mainland India’s first species of flying geckos in Mizoram. Details of the study on the new species, which is also called gliding or parachute geckos, were published on Monday in the latest issue of Salamandra, a German journal on herpetology. Cyclone ‘Mocha’ damages over 230 houses in Mizoram

Aizawl, May 15: At least 236 houses and eight refugee camps have been damaged after super cyclone 'Mocha' struck several parts of Mizoram, officials said on Monday. Over 5,800 people from violence-hit Manipur fled to Mizoram, say officials

Aizawl, May 15: Over 5,800 people from violence-hit Manipur have fled to Mizoram and taken shelter in different districts, officials said on Sunday. A total of 5,822 people, belonging to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo community, are lodged at temporary relief camps across six districts of Mizoram, they said. Aizawl district currently has the highest number of such displaced people at 2021, followed by Kolasib (1,847) and Saitual (1,790), the officials said. 3,583 people from violence-hit Manipur flee to Mizoram

Aizawl, May 11: A total of 3,583 people from Manipur fled to Mizoram after ethnic violence broke out last week, officials said on Thursday. These people were lodged at temporary relief camps across six districts of Mizoram, while many were also given shelter by their relatives, they said. A total of 1,351 people have taken shelter in the Kolasib district, 1,214 people in the Saitual district and 934 others in the Aizawl district, a statement said.
