Japan slips into recession, becomes 4th-largest economy behind US, China and now Germany

TOKYO, FEBRUARY 15: Japan's economy is now the world's 4th-largest after it contracted in the last quarter of 2023 and fell behind Germany. The gGovernment reported the economy shrank at an annual rate of 0.4% in October to December, according to Cabinet Office data on real GDP, though it grew 1.9% for all of 2023. It contracted 2.9% in July-September. Two straight quarters of contraction are considered an indicator an economy is in a technical recession. France, Germany and Italy agree on AI regulation

BERLIN, NOVEMBER 20: France, Germany and Italy have reached an agreement on how artificial intelligence should be regulated, according to a joint paper seen by Reuters, which is expected to accelerate negotiations at the European level. The three Governments support commitments that are voluntary, but binding on small and large AI providers in the European Union that sign up to them.
