Assam flood situation grim, over 31 lakh affected in 26 districts

Guwahati, June 30: Assam's flood situation worsened with more than 31 lakh people affected and 12 deaths during the last 24 hours. Many parts of Cachar's Silchar town remained under water for over eleven days on Thursday, officials said. The death count due to flood and landslides this year has increased to 151. The number of affected population increased to 31.54 lakh in 26 districts as against the previous day's 24.92 lakh. Assam flood situation improves, most rivers show receding trend

Guwahati, June 28: The overall flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement on Tuesday with most of the rivers showing a receding trend even though 21 lakh people remained affected by the deluge and most localities of Silchar town in Cachar district still under water for more than a week, officials said. Railways to transport relief materials to flood hit NE states free of cost

Guwahati, June 27: Railways will transport all relief materials to the flood affected north eastern states free of cost, officials said on Monday. The free transportation will be applicable for inter-state and intra-state aid and relief materials by parcel vans or second class, luggage cum guard van and goods trains, North East Frontier Railways spokesperson said here. 17,500 people rescued in flood-affected Assam: NDRF

New Delhi, June 23: About 17,500 people have been rescued till now from the flood-affected areas of Assam, the NDRF said Thursday. Of these, 900 were rescued on Thursday, a spokesperson of the National Disaster Response Force stated in an update issued at 5 pm.
