Heroin worth Rs 3.5 crore seized in Assam

Diphu/Guwahati, September 20: Police seized 412 kilograms of heroin, estimated to be valued at Rs 3.5 crore in the international market, and arrested two persons in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Monday for possessing the contraband, an official said.Acting on information, police stopped a vehicle coming from Manipur at Laharijan check post under Bokajan police station and seized the drug hidden in 30 boxes of soap.Two occupants of the vehicle, who were taking the heroin to Guwahati from Manipur, were arrested, the official said.In another incident, three persons were arrested...

Assam govt decides to establish law colleges

Guwahati, September 15: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that his government was committed to set up law colleges to provide quality education at an affordable cost. The chief minister said this while laying the foundation of Jorhat Government Law College, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office.The state government has decided to set up the colleges at Dibrugarh, North Lakhimpur, Rangia, Dhubri, Diphu, Silchar, Tezpur, Nalbari, and Nagaon, and all the institutions will have modern facilities, Sarma said.Earlier most of the law colleges...

AFSPA extended in Assam for another 6 months

Guwahati, September 11: The Assam government extended the 'Disturbed Area' status of the state for another six months from August 28 under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), according to an official statement issued on Saturday.
