Dimapur, February 14: Advisor for IT, Science and Technology, Mmhonlumo Kikon inaugurated the symbolic traditional Chumpo and unveiled the plaque at Wokha village on February 13.
Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Kikon said our culture is our identity and Chumpo is an integral part of every village, which was the first and the biggest institution in the olden days.
He reminded the importance and significance of preserving our culture and tradition. Kikon applauded the Wokha village people for identifying the Chumpo site after archeological excavation was carried out in the heart of the village and constructing a model signifying the old Chumpo.
Earlier, guest of honour, Nchumbemo Lotha, Additional Secretary, highlighted the importance of preserving our culture and traditions.
Keynote address was delivered by Libemo Kithan, convener, Heritage Committee while short speeches were delivered by Dr Chumben Murry, MLA, YM Humtsoe, NCS, PDA member and S Yanphamo Tungoe, chairman, Wokha village council.
Dedication prayer was pronounced by Rev. O. Thungben Kikon, WVPC and Nchumbemo (Shipu) Erui & friends rendered the Chumpo dedication song. Eramo Yitssomo , B. Khel narrated the significance and how the Chumpo was built by their forefathers.
