SVANidhi Mahotsav celebrated in Dimapur

Dimapur, July 23: SVANidhi Mahotsav for Atmanirbhar street vendors was celebrated today at Super Market, Dimapur which saw the participation of 10 Self Help Groups and 40 Street Vendors. The event was organized by District Urban Development Agency Dimapur and Dimapur Municipal Council and sponsored by State Urban Development Agency.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Moatoshi Longkumer said that the event commemorates the 2nd anniversary of SVANidhi scheme which was launched in 2020 by the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, and added that the scheme has been extremely successful.
The MLA lamented that inspite of 2400 registered street vendors, only few are using digital transactions.
He said during the pandemic, street vendors suffered a lot and therefore to help them this scheme was launched.
Stating that this is a perfect scheme for Dimapur, Moatoshi said it is first of its kind scheme in India where financial help is provided to the street vendors with minimum interest.
He expressed happiness that out of 75 cities, Dimapur has been selected to celebrate the festival.
Stressing that it is one of the best schemes for Dimapurians, the MLA urged the street vendors to come under the scheme and avail the benefits.
Lamenting that Nagas do not have the art of saving, Moatoshi said Nagas don’t have credit discipline, they take loans but do not repay back. “We need to understand that we need to change, our lifestyles need to be changed,” he stressed.
Beneficiary & Convenor, SEWA, Rita Ghosh PMSVANidhi and Kesiateilak Sieringmaa SHG-G, Day-NULM beneficiary spoke on the occasion and narrated the benefits of coming under the central schemes.
Administrator, Dimapur Municipal Council, Albert Ezung also spoke on the occasion.
Various activities including digital training, distribution of parichay boards and QR codes, registration of new street vendors also took place today, besides exhibition cum sale of SHGs products.
On the occasion, certificates were also provided to the street vendors.
