DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 21: Suspected NSCN-K (Yung Aung faction) militants attacked a camp of the ‘D’ company of 40 Assam Rifles at Chenloisho village located near Indo-Myanmar border in Mon District.
The militants numbering around six to seven fired indiscriminately at the AR ‘D’ company post early Sunday morning at around 2:10 am. AR jawans also retaliated.
After the firing, the militants reportedly managed to escape under the cover of darkness. A combing operation has been launched in the area.
Speaking to Nagaland Page, Deputy Commissioner, Mon District, Thavaseelan K IAS confirmed that firing took place at the 40 AR ‘D’ company camp early Sunday morning.
The DC said that the assailants fired with sophisticated weapons from a distance at the Assam Rifles post and fled immediately. “There were no casualties in firing but two persons sustained minor injuries and are reportedly out of danger”, the DC said.
On the identity of the assailants, the DC said so far the identity of the assailants has not been confirmed. But he said the security forces suspects cadres of the Yung Aung led faction to be involved in the shootout.
The DC informed that situation at present is normal in the adjoining area of Chenloiso village but security forces are on highly alert. No arrests have been made so far, he added.
