Dimapur, January 18: The Nagaland In Service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) has convened an emergency executive body meeting on January 22 (11 am) at Hotel Japfu, Kohima to deliberate on the failure of the State Government to accept the association’s demand to increase the superannuation age of medical doctors despite repeated memoranda submitted to the authorities.
NIDA is demanded increasing the superannuation age of doctors to 65 years based on the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016. Reportedly, this increase in superannuation age has been implemented across the country, including NE states, except Meghalaya and Nagaland.
As reported earlier in this paper, NIDA had written to the State Government in October 2020 demanding implementation of the PM’s promise. Recently the association submitted a fresh representation to the Government to make its decisions known within 7 days, the deadline which expired on January 14. Following this, NIDA again wrote to the Government giving 24 hours to give its decision on increasing the superannuation age, stating that it will decide its future course of action based on the response of the State Government.
Convening the emergency executive body meeting, NIDA president Dr E Phyantsuthung requested also requested all district representative to convene their own (CMO unit & MS unit) local emergency meet to discuss the issue and come out with decisions/suggestions for further course of action to press their demand.
