Students sensitized on gender & peace

Dimapur, May 19: Peace Channel organized a day capacity building programme at Little Angel School Wokha on Saturday on the topic “Gender and Peace” aiming to sensitize the students on gender inequality and eradicate them from minds, hearts and actions and also to encourage them to promote gender equality between man and women. All together 47 students actively participated for the programme.
Addressing the students, peace activist Patrick W. Tungoe stated that gender and peace are closely linked, peace is vital to promote gender equality, while gender inequality can also undermine peace and drive conflict and violent. He elucidated that because of gender discrimination, women are affected the most as they do not have equal opportunity as men for education, meaningful careers, political positions and economic advancements.
He also added that, women too deserve a life with opportunities to be educated, to work, to be healthy and to participate in all aspects of life. He urged the male participants to respect and protect the rights of women and eradicate the concept of “enter a men’s world and compete on an equal basis” from its mindset.
Later he encouraged the participants to promote genuine equality between men and women by planting the idea of respect for human rights. (Page News Service)
