Student shot in Dimapur; shooter held

Dimapur, August 5: In a shocking incident, a student of Eastern Christian College, Dimapur, was shot in the leg Sunday night at around 9 pm at Purana Bazaar by one Puloto Awomi, son of Shekiho Awomi, a resident of Puranabazaar Dimapur.
The victim has been identified as Nikato Yeptho, a B.A 5th semester student and ECC representative to All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU). He was immediately rushed to Dimapur Hospital and is stated to be out of danger.
Dimapur police has arrested the accused, and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
According to reports, the victim and two of his friends were on their way home from a friend’s place when the incident happened.
Sources said the culprit shot the victim twice with a country made point 22 pistol. Fortunately one of the bullets missed the victim. While the motive behind shooting the student is not know, sources said the culprit is claiming that he was “totally drunk” when he shot the student.
Condemnation: The ANCSU and the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has strongly condemned the shooting and has demanded the law enforcing agencies to book the culprit and give befitting punishment.
In a release, ANCSU said the barbaric act against the innocent student is a serious threat to the students’ community, and stated that it will not shy away but remain vigilant till justice is delivered to the victim. It also appealed to the concerned authority not to grant bail to the culprit under any circumstances.
In a separate condemnation, the DNSU said it will not tolerate such inhuman act committed on any students or public in general. It demanded that the culprit be awarded befitting punishment as per the law. (Page News Service)
