State Level Marketing workshop to promote handicrafts underway


Dimapur, July 18: A 2-day State Level Marketing Workshop for Promoting the Handicraft organized at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur by Council of Handicrafts Development Corporations (COHANDs), New Delhi in association with Handicrafts Marketing Center, Office of the Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles Kohima, Nagaland from July 18 to 19. The workshop was inaugurated today by T Rollee Vareishim, Assistant Director (Handicrafts), HMC, Kohima, Nagaland.
T Rollee Vareishim, Assistant Director (Handicrafts), HMC, Kohima, Nagaland welcomed all participants and highlight the purpose of the workshop to disseminate first hand information about the schemes of the office of D.C. (Handicrafts) and other Central and State Government offices in a face to face interactive manner to the participants.
The workshop was aimed to educate the craftsperson/artisans, national awardees, NGO’s/SHG’s, entrepreneurs and manufacturers of handicrafts in Nagaland.
The workshop discussed about the Market situation, quality & its standards, Valuable marketing and Development, packaging of their products effectively and marketing them with using tools online marketing techniques through the resource persons present in the workshop.
The guest speakers shared their views on handicraft development in Nagaland. They shared that the craft from Nagaland is yet to be explored up to business and professional level. Even though there are a lot of entrepreneurs operating in Nagaland but it could not help the local artisan community to that extant. Further it has also been added that new designs are not at all there in the sector of handicrafts. This workshop was aimed towards design and product development which will in turn help the willing artisans to come up with new designs and products. Blend on new design with artistic passion of craftsperson can add value to this traditional source of livelihoods in Nagaland.
Besides Power point presentations on various aspects by resource persons, Alem Longkumer – National Awardee, Neihunuo Sorhie – National Awardee, Jesmina Zeliang – Convenor EPCH, Dr. Nesatalu Hiese – Scientist D (NSTEC), Dr. Tisonise Iralu – Regional Director IGNOU and Ravi Kaushik – COHANDS were the main resource persons of the day one workshop in the presence of 80 prominent and productive artisans. (Page News Service)
