Kohima, April 2: The Government of Nagaland has directed Deputy Commissioner of all districts to extend all possible assistance to stranded students.
In a letter to Deputy Commissioners, Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy suggested that list of such students assisted may be intimated to Principal Director, School Education Department, Shanavas.
Toy said reports are being received that in view of the lockdown students in various towns residing in hostels and rented accommodations are facing problems in procurement of rations due to financial constraints.
Earlier the All Nagaland College Students’ Union wrote a letter to Chief Secretary stating that students in rented accommodations and hostels are facing hard times to buy their rations, some due to financial constraints. “It is humble prayer of ANCSU to the State Government to include those students in their respective district, village and ward to be eligible to avail the aid from the State Government and district administration,” the letter stated.
ANCSU also reiterated support to State Government in fighting against COVID-19.
The State Government has already started distribution of relief rations to daily wage earners, homeless and destitute people, old aged people, etc. So far there are no reports of shortage of essential commodities from villages due to restriction of movement due to the countrywide lockdown.
