State CIC discusses RTI misuse with Central CIC

DIMAPUR, MAY 27: State Chief Information Commissioner, I Meyionen Jamir on Friday called on YK Sinha, Chief Information Commissioner, Central Information Commission, New Delhi, and discussed the misuse of RTI Act by applicants for personal benefits and blackmail.
“The misuse of the Act by the RTI applicants for personal benefits, blackmailing of Government Departments, and thereby disrupting the normal functioning of office and measures to tackle such issues were discussed”, stated a DIPR bulletin.
Conversely, they also discussed the misuse of the Act by PIOs and Department officials “by negotiating with the applicants to avoid parting with information/documents to cover up the misdeeds of the Departments”, it added.
Their discussions also featured effective implementation of RTI Act in the State.
It stated that Nagaland is one of the few States where suo moto disclosures by public authorities are available on their official websites “which was appreciated as a good practice”.
Nagaland is also 1 of the 9 States maintaining 100% responsiveness to RTI applications, it claimed.
The State CIC also attended the Board of Governors meeting of the National Federation of Information Commissions in India at CIC Bhavan, New Delhi.
