DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 26: The second edition of Dimapur Football League organised by Naga United Football Club under the aegis of Dimapur District Football Association (DDFA) ended today in the Dimapur District Sports Council Stadium (DDSCS) with Advisor Power, Government of Nagaland, Tovihoto Ayemi as Special Invitee and host of dignitaries.
State Boys Hostel lifted the trophy by defeating Tribal Hustlers by 6 goals to 1 and walked away with a cash amount of Rs. 1, 50000 and trophy while the Tribal Hustlers were the runners up who were awarded with Rs. 70000 and trophy
Speaking on the occasion Tovihoto Ayemi lauded the efforts of DDFA and Naga United FC for organizing the second edition of DFL and this is one of its kinds in Dimapur.
He said, “Leaving aside all other programmes I have excused myself to attend this programme because this is happening in our district and I am extremely happy to know that this is one of the major events happening in Dimapur and I found out time to attend it and enjoy the game”.
Tovihoto said DFL is a platform that has been created for the youngsters and in a very short period this particular league has created a momentum and has gained huge popularity in the district. Just for the fact that players from different clubs have participated, I am also told that the previous edition of DFL-1, DFL had about 6 or 8 clubs, today we see about 12 clubs with three outside players club and this is a huge achievement on the part of the Naga United FC.
He said, “This DFL has attracted more than 40000 crowds and it is happening at night and it is also something new not only in Dimapur but also in Nagaland,
Tovihoto encouraged the organizers to be very consistent in their endeavors and to create platforms for the young players who are highly talented youths.
He said, “We see the potential in our youths to become a sportsman and this is a good platform and to continue with their editions for years to come”.
Meanwhile, a total of 166 players participated in the 2nd edition of DFL where 66 matches were played and 227 goals were scored.
