Dimapur, December 29: The Catholic community of St. Mary’s Church, Merapani celebrated golden jubilee on December 27-28 on the theme ‘He is a living God and he will rule forever (Daniel 6:26)’ with Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima as the main celebrant of the jubilee Holy Eucharist on December 28. Elias T Lotha, Transport Commissioner, Nagaland was the special guest. The event commenced with a traditional procession towards the jubilee monolith. Bishop James Thoppil blessed the jubilee monolith which was unveiled by Elias T Lotha.
Bishop in his homily said that jubilee is the time to express gratitude to God who inspired and guided every step of the pioneers of the community who ventured out to accept and to live a faith that was not so familiar and welcome. “Today we are grateful to them and are proud of them. Their sacrifices and dedication bore fruit and we are here today celebrating their courage and commitment to accept and live the Catholic faith, the faith that had come down to us from Jesus, through the Apostles and their successors. Jubilee is also a time to live the present with passion. Jubilee is a call to re-dedicate and renew our lives according to the principles of Jesus Christ,” he said.
Bishop concluded the homily by inviting the community to look to the past with gratitude, to live the present with passion and commitment and embrace the future with hope.
Elias T Lotha exhorted the community to be a living example to go out of one’s comfort zones to spread the message of the Gospel. He called upon the Catholic community to profess their faith with conviction and firmness in believe.
