Chetheba, December 13: Splash Brothers from Thenyizu village defeated hosting team Hümewsü in the final match to emerged as the champions of the first season Basketball tournament held at Chetheba Town local ground under Phek district on Sunday.
In an exciting final match, Splash Brothers outclassed Hümewsü by 35-24 points with Aveto Resu declared as the most valuable player for men’s category. While The Mix lost against Hümewsü in the semifinals and B Ballers falll short against Splash Brothers in semis.
For women’s basketball, Lady Ballers from Chetheba edge passed Rimshots by 12-2 points in the final match to take the title. Ravolu Nyekha was adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament for women’s category.
The two-day tournament was organized by Hümewsü, a group of young enthusiast from Chetheba with the motive to promote friendship through sports. Owing to the pandemic, the group also expressed their regret to host their tournament in a bigger platform for other district to participate in the tournament. The team hoped that they will be able to host open tournament in the coming years with the new normal, a press release was issued by Team Hümewsü on Sunday evening.
A total of 10 teams participated for men’s category, while five teams for women’s category of the two-day basketball championship.
It may be mentioned that the first customized iron board for basketball court at Chetheba was inaugurated on this year September 15 dubbed as the lockdown project. (Page News Service)
