Dimapur, October 31: The All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) has sought immediate repairing of Nationa Highway 702A connecting Zunheboto town which is in a deplorable condition.
In a letter to the Engineer-in-chief, PWD (NH), the SKK said work order for the road was awarded to M/s Multi Builders on May 23, 2017 with an amount of Rs 5.36 crore (approx) for ‘Improvement of riding quality of NH-702A in Nagaland from km 40.00 to km 53.00″. It informed that the work was completed only a year ago.
“However what has come to an utter shock and surprise for commuters is the poor workmanship during the whole construction period. In fact, the present road condition has gone bad to worse that public safety is at high risk as verified by SKK officials on spot,” it said.
The SKK called upon the authority to affect quality work along the stretch of NH connecting Zunheboto town as per prescribed specification without delay in the interest of public in general and students’ community in particular.
On the ongoing PMGSY Phase IX Batch I (2017-18) road works namely Satakha to Momi (4.2km) at Rs 222.98 lakhs; Satoi to Ikiye to Itovi (11.60km) at Rs 429.5 lakhs; Achikuhu to Yevishe via Yeshito (12km) at Rs 768.10 lkahs; Yeshito to Kikhevi via Khatara (18km) at Rs 1127.52 lakhs; Satoi to Tsuruhu (5.20km) at Rs 351.58 lakhs, Tokiye to Thokihimi (12km) at Rs 730.67 lakhs, the SKK appealed to all the contractors and concerned inspection officers of the department to carry out quality work as per specifications.
Stating that it will closely monitor the works, the SKK warned that the contractors will be held equally responsible for any poor quality work and stringent steps initiated to blacklist their firms. (Page News Service)
