Dimapur, October 21: Peren District administration and district level center for women organized a sensitization programme on October 21 at Barail Valley Higher Secondary School, Jalukie Town marking the celebration of Girl Child month in the district under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP).
Women Welfare Officer, Heiriateilei in her address stated that educating the girl child is the sole motive under BBBP to ensure the progress of the girl child in the District. She stressed on protection of children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 which deals with various types of sexual offences and ensure every child is not harassed. She called upon all to make use of the act that works for the safety of children. She also encouraged all to work for betterment and be a part to bring a positive change in the days to come.
In the programme, sanitary pads were distributed to all the girls and pens to the boys.
Samziuram: To promote the fulfillment of girl’s rights, girl’s education and girl’s empowerment, an awareness programme under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) was organized on October 20 at Liangmai Baptist Phumling Church, Samziuram. The awareness programme was initiated by Peren District administration in collaboration with District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK), Peren.
Speaking as resource person, District Coordinator (MSK), Kiziupeululie highlighted the scope and functions of BBBP, OSC, Women Helpline-181 and Childline-1098. She also stressed on the importance of providing the girl child with proper education and urged them to be aware or make use of the helpline which are set up for women and children. In order to empower women, any kind of crime against women is to be rooted out, Kiziupeululie added.
District Coordinator MSK, Lungngaulie stressed on gender equality where she said equal rights and opportunity should be given to both male and female.
Altogether 300 children attended the programme. The program was conducted in continuation of the celebration of Girl Child month.
School sanitation: An awareness programme on school sanitation and hygiene under BBBP was organized by Peren District administration and District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) on October 19 at Christian High School, Jalukie. The programme was organized to impart informal education to the students on why it is important to maintain proper sanitation and hygiene in our day to day lives.
District Coordinator MSK, Lungngaulie briefed the students on sanitation and hygiene and the need to maintain cleanliness. She spoke on the Sukhanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) Government schemes which is to provide monetary help to girls for future education and marriage expenses. Lungngaulie further asserted that the main objective of organizing the awareness programme is to educate the girl student in maintaining proper cleanliness and hygiene as poor sanitation impairs the health leading to high rates of malnutrition and productivity.
In the programme sanitary pads were also distributed to all the participants.
