Sensitization meeting on COVID-19 held at Suruhoto

Dimapur, September 14: A one day sensitization meeting on Anti Stigma and Discrimination on COVID-19 was held on September 13 at Suruhoto block, Zunheboto.
Dr. K Akaho Sema, Dy. CMO, Zunheboto speaking at the meeting stated that Covid-19 is a public health emergency that is causing a stressful and a difficult time for everyone. He mentioned that stigma associated with Covid-19 is based on three main factors namely lack of adequate information, fear of the disease, rumours and misinformation
He said, “Let’s be kind to each other and help stop the spread of corona virus. Let’s support our family, friends, neighbours and frontline responders in the fight against COVID-19. We all have a role to play in protecting the physical and mental health of ourselves and others during the COVID-19 outbreak.”
He said the only weapon to fight this disease is by wearing mask, proper hand washing and social distancing. He also pointed out that stigma and discrimination is leading to people concealing symptoms, hesitancy in seeking medical care, not adhering to interventions like home quarantine, and ostracization of healthcare workers and others involved in Covid-19 management. He, therefore, urged the gathering to be appreciative and supportive.
