Kohima Monthly Night Carnival starts tonight
Kohima, February 21: The second edition Sekrenyi Mini Hornbill will be celebrated on the theme “Restoring values” jointly organized by Angami Public Organsiation (APO) and State Government from February 25 to 27 next at Khouchiezie (Local Ground) Kohima.
Sekrenyi, also known as Phousanyi the premier festival of the Angami Nagas is celebrated annually and generally observed between the month of December to March. It is a festival of purification and sanctification of the body, mind and soul.
Sekrrenyi is considered as the hallmark of the Angamis.
Addressing a press conference at the Deputy Commissioner’s chamber, ADC Kohima, Lithrongla Thongpi Rutsa said that the Mini Hornbill festival to be celebrated for three days will not only bring together the culture, tradition and ethnic food of the Angami tribe from the four regions – Northern, Southern, Western and Chakhro but also aims at passing on the culture and tradition of the forefathers to the younger generation.
During the three day event, the celebration will mainly focus on showcasing the Angami traditional items in various segments keeping in line with the objective of the Government to promote the local entrepreneurs among the community, she said.
Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio will grace the occasion as chief host while President of Sumi Hoho, Hekhushe Shikho will be the Honoured Guest of the festival with the Tenyimi tribes of Nagaland – Chakhesang, Pochury, Rengma and Zeliang as special guests.
The inaugural function will be held at 11:00 AM on February 25 followed by indigenous games competition and the Sekrenyi feast.
Beside the festivities, the four ranges will be opening up stalls to sell the different products of Angami community and also the ethnic food and local fruits and beverages.
On the second day, the stalls will open at 12:00 Noon while the cultural extravaganza will commence at 5:00 PM which will be marked by traditional song (Angami) competition, Act: “Themia puo kelhou” and Traditional & Ethnic Designer show. Special appearance will be made by FBB Colors Femina Miss India Nagaland 2018 Ruopfüzhano Whiso, Miss Nagaland 2019 Vikuonuo Sachü and Mr Kohima 2019 Kevingunyu Mere.
The last day on February 27 will be Exploring Angami’s musical heritage with Music Educatr Atso Chasie as special appearance.
Meanwhile, Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) president Medozhatuo Rutsa informed that coinciding with the Sekrenyi festival, KCCI will be launching the Monthly Night Carnival from February 22 (Saturday) night.
It will be held from Y Junction leading to Head Post Office till Local Ground Gate and conclude along with the Sekrenyi festival on February 27, he said.
Rutsa also informed that from next month onward, with a view to change the mindset of the people and bring about night life in the State capital, KCCI would conduct the Monthly Night Carnival for two days, that is, fourth Saturday and Sunday of the month. (Page News Service)
