Dimapur, December 6: Sekrenyi, the premier festival of the Angami tribe, was celebrated at Dzükozho, Jakhama village with Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports, Zhale Neikha as the chief guest on December 6.
The festival was organised by the Japfüphiki, Dobashi & Gaonbura during the Hornbill Festival not only to showcase the rich culture and traditions of the Angamis to tourists from outside the state but also to build goodwill and understanding between the Dobashis and Gaonburas under Japfüphiki range.
Er. Zhale Neikha in his address lamented the gradual loss of knowledge in folk dance and song among the present generation and exhorted the youngsters to preserve and protect their culture and traditions passed on to them by their forefathers. Reminding that the Gaonburas and Dobashis that the British rule played an important role in the maintenance of law and order in the village, Neikha stressed the need for cooperation and coordination among the GBs and DBs.
A folk song, using Tati musical instrument, was performed by the Jubilant Tribal Club, Kigwema and a folk dance was presented the Zhotso Students Union, Jakhama on the occassion.
The Sekrenyi programme was chaired by Head DB, SDO(C) office Jakhama, Lhaliezhü.
