Kohima, July 30: With an object to make mathematics more meaningful and interesting learning process, State Council of Educational, Research and Training (SCERT) Nagaland has brought out Mathematics Resource Book on Teaching & Learning Materials (TLM) for Classes VI, VII & VIII.
The book was officially is released by Additional Director of School Education, Limawapang Aier on Tuesday during the inaugural function of a three-day orientation on District Resource Group (DRG) organized by Mathematics Cell of SCERT and sponsored by Samagrah Shiksha Abhiyan, Nagaland here.
In his brief address, Aier called upon the teachers to work sincerely for the betterment of the future generation.
“As teachers we also have to learn new techniques to improve and attract the youngsters towards learning mathematics joyfully,” he said, while expressing hope that with the launch of the book the state will see student attract towards learning mathematics.
SCERT Nagaland, Director, T Sekhose said unfortunately most of the youngsters consider mathematics as complex and complicated subject and that only those very intelligent can pursue it.
Nonetheless, he opined that since mathematics is taught very technically it has become mechanical or may because of the wrong teaching method and syllabus.
He therefore said that it a challenge for the teachers to make children realize that maths is part and parcel of day to day life.
“We have to convince children that Maths is not horrible but an enjoyable subject by evolving a learning package and methodology to help the children demolish the mental block,” he said. (Page News Service)
