Dimapur, January 25: Former Nagaland Chief Minister Dr SC Jamir, former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and leading industrialists Anand Mahindra along with 13 others have been selected for the Padma Bhushan awards, a Government release said on Saturday.
Jamir, who served as the Governor of Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, was one of the signatories of the 16-Point Agreement which brought about the creation of Nagaland state. Jamir is considered one of the architects of modern Nagaland.
Padma Bhushan is the country’s third-highest civilian award after Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan. It is followed by the Padma Shri.
Jamir was selected in the field of public affairs.
Former union ministers George Fernandes, Arun Jaitley, and Sushma Swaraj were also honoured with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan posthumously – the country’s second-highest civilian award.
