Saubhagya Scheme launched in Nagaland; Over 90,000 households to be electrified by March 2019

Kohima, April 20: Nagaland today launched Saubhagya, Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana with an estimated target to provide electricity to over 90,000 household in 738 villages throughout the state by March 31 next year.
The scheme, which will cover 66,766 rural households and 24,566 urban households throughout the State was formally launched by Advisor for Power Department, MLA H Tovihoto Ayemi in the department’s conference hall.
In his brief address, Ayemi said that the main aim of the scheme is to provide electricity to all the un-electrified households in both urban and rural areas while the whole project will be monitored by Rural Electrification Corporation (REC).
He said that the un-electrified households can install electricity by paying Rs 500 in 10 instalments to avail the benefit. He informed that in order to make the electricity connection easier, the Department of Power will organize camps in villages and un-electrified households can avail the benefit directly on the spot. He, however, said that after the installation of the connection, the respective household has to sincerely bear the electricity bill, which will be the normal bill charge.
The MLA also highlighted that in remote areas where electricity connection is not possible, the department would make efforts to provide electricity through Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) system.
Maintaining that both the NDA government at the Centre and PDA government in the State is making sincere efforts to reach to the poor, he urged all section of the society to support the initiatives of the government.
The MLA further urged all the officers and staff of the department, who will be directly involved in the implementation of the scheme to be dedicated and focus on the target so as to achieve 100% electrification in the State.
On the occasion, MLA Ayemi also released the pamphlets with information of Saubhagya and Integrated Power Development Scheme.
Delivering the keynote address, Commissioner & Secretary (Power), K D Vizo said Nagaland has 2,81,811 rural households out of which 1,93,502 are already electrified. He said that 21,543 rural households in the state are already being covered under another scheme called Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), the State has to cover only 66,766 rural houses holds under Saubhagya program.
Also stating that out of the 1,43,077 urban households in Nagaland, 1,18,511 have already been electrified, Vizo said only 24,566 un-electrified urban households are proposed to be covered under Saubhagya scheme.
He said that the department would be covering 738 villages while carrying out the programme for the benefit of the rural areas. Nonetheless, the Commissioner and Secretary said that electricity connection would be released only after due verifications with essential documents like voter ID, passport, driving license, ration card, aadhar card etc for proof of identify.
He also said that the facilities to be provided will be only single point wiring with provision for LED bulb, mobile charging points and switch.
