Kohima, January 24: The 57th games & sports meet of Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) got underway at Kimipfuphe Ground, Kigwema with Youth Resources & Sports advisor Er. Zale Neikha as the inaugural guest.
Altogether, 12 villages under SAPO jurisdiction are taking part in the discipline of football (Men) and volleyball (Men & Women).
Addressing the inaugural function, Er. Neikha encouraged the youth to take up sports as profession.
He said the state government is serious and committed to promote sports in the state.
Referring to the completion of astro turf football pitch at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima, he said the world class sports facilities is now available in the state and asked the budding footballers to make the best use of the facility.
Er. Neikha also urged upon the youth be more cautious in choosing the sports discipline basing on their ability and interest in order to excel in the field of games and sports.
SASA wrestling secretary Keneilel Rote administered oath to the participating teams.
The prize sponsors for 57th meet include; Ura Hotel, Kohima, Campsite Yedikha, Jakhama, Star Sports Kohima, Hornbill Gas Station, Phesama and Vineits Bakery, Kigwema. The match patrons are Seyievile Peter Zashumo, PS to NLA Speaker, Khovi Thapru BDO, Jakhama, Vilekho Bio General Secretary ASA and Vitsorel Lcho, advocate.
The inaugural function was chaired by Medo Keyie while keynote address was delivered by SASA president Ruokuovikho Chale.
All the frontal Organisations including Angami Sport Association officials were present, according to SASA general secretary Meyiesul Thapru and SASA games and sports secretary Neilekho Zutso.
The tournament will conclude on January 25 with Vimezhol Theyo, president Southern Angami Public Organization as the closing guest at 2 p.m. (Page News Service)
