Dimapur, July 13: The opening programme for sale of fresh local fish at Tuensang Town initiated by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources was held at the market place in Tuensang on Friday. Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, L. Jamithung Lotha attended the programme.
While briefing the farmers, District Fisheries Officer, Tuensang, Rongsenkumzuk stated that the sale of fresh local fish is an encouragement to farmers for mass production of fish and it will also help to avoid import from outside the state. Most importantly such a programme helps to channelize fish farming and its sellers and consumers within the district, he said. He further said that farmers have potential for sufficient fish supply but they are farming only for self-consumption during festival seasons.
The main objective of such a programme is to encourage commercial farming in the near future, he said. The sale will be carried out every Friday in the next three months, he added.
