However, Sameer Verma lost to Jonatan Christie of Indonesia 21-16, 17-21, 15-21. Only last week, Sameer stunned the Asian Games champion in Denmark.
Men’s doubles team of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy registered a straight game victory against Koreans Min Hyuk Kang and Kim Won Ho 21-18, 21-17. In mixed doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy went down fighting against Chris
Adcock and Gabrielle of England 22-24, 21-18, 19-21 while the combine of Rohan Kapoor and Kuhoo Garg proved no match for top seeds Siwei Zheng and Yagiong Huang of China 5-21, 10-21.
Earlier, Srikanth started the proceedings for India with an impressive victory against Wong Wing Ki Vincent of Hong Kong 21- 19, 21-13. Vincent played well in the first game but was outclassed by Srikanth in the second. (TNN)
