Dimapur, May 6: With an objective to encourage farmers to promote local coffee, enhance productivity and sustainable farming, the Department of Land Resources, Peren on Thursday distributed 15 Rubber Sheet Roller machines and 15 Coffee Pulping machine to farmers of Peren district at DPO Office, Jalukie.
The project is funded by the North East Council (NEC).
ADC Jalukie, Dr Tinojongshi Chang (NCS) handed over the machineries to the farmers.
Owing to the favourable agro-climatic conditions, Peren district has immense scope and potentiality for both rubber and coffee plantation, he said and stressed on the importance of rubber and coffee plantation as a sustainable crop to generate local economy and enhance livelihood. He encouraged the farmers to focus on mass quantity production and also channelize their products across the globe.
Alemla Aier, District Project Officer, Land Resources Department, encouraged the farmers to put extra efforts and go for plantation on a larger scale by promoting eco-tourism and providing more avenues for self employment thereby generating more income which will go directly to the villagers.
