RTI Week observed at Mkg, Kohima, Peren

Dimapur, October 11: Mokokchung District observed the RTI Week on Wednesday in the ADC Planning conference hall, Mokokchung on the theme “RTI and the role of citizens”.
Resource person Sentinaro Longchar, Project Assistant (MDLSA) said RTI is a very important Act which gives and empowers the people to get access to all important information on the activities of the Government in the country.
W. Manpai Phom, ADC & PIO Mokokchung who gave the introductory speech said that the Government has empowered the people with huge power through RTI but he also reminded that this right should not be misused for the dark side of the society and should be used as a tool for transparency in the activities of the Government.
Kohima: Kohima district observed Right to Information Week by organising a one-day awareness programme under the theme “RTI and Role of Citizens” on October 9 at Deputy Commissioner Office’s conference hall, Kohima.
Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, First Apellate Authority and Deputy Commissioner, Kohima in his keynote address pointed out the need for Government officials to meet frequently and discuss the new developments and updates which is being constantly added to the RTI structure.
“Before RTI, information was a privilege and not a right and only some privileged sections of society could gain access to the information available.” he said. He encouraged the officials to maintain transparency in delegating their duties and further stressed on the importance of processing all RTI application within the stipulated timeline.
Chubasanen, EAC Kohima and Sizin, EAC Kohima gave a detailed Powerpoint presentation on RTI and shed light on the finer details of the workings of the RTI Act.
Dr. Hovithal Sothu, Deputy Director (Training) ATI, Nagaland was the resource person at the awareness programme. He explained the working of the RTI Act in detail, and at the same time answered all the queries of the officials present clearing all doubts and confusions regarding the practical aspects of the RTI Act.
The programme concluded with the screening of a documentary on RTI titled “My Right, My Voice” by DPRO office, Kohima.
Peren: Peren District observed the Right to Information Week by organising a one-day awareness programme under the theme “Right to information and role of citizens” on October 11 in the ADC’s conference hall, old Peren Town. EAC Peren (Prob), Menlom Phom chaired the programme.
ADC Peren, Sarita Yadav, IAS and Asuni Newmai, Panel Lawyer, Peren District Legal Services spoke on the theme of the day emphasizing on the application of RTI and its importance in a citizen’s life. They encouraged the officials to maintain transparency in delegating their duties and further stressed on the importance of processing all RTI application within the stipulated time.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Lungrahei President, All Ward Chairman Union Peren Town. The programme concluded with the screening of a short movie titled ‘My right my Voice’.
