Dimapur, September 19: Occupants of a car had a providential escape when large rocks fell on the car at the Chumukedima stretch of NH-29 Saturday morning. The car was completely crushed by the falling rocks.
PRO Dimapur Police, Relo T Aye said due to rockslides, one car was severely damaged, but the occupants of the car escaped without any injuries.
Eyewitnesses said on seeing the rocks falling occupants of the car managed to get out of the car to safety before the rocks fell on the car completely crushing it.
Traffic on the highway was disrupted but at around 9:30 am, the debris was cleared and single lane traffic was restored, sources said.
Highway closed for restoration works
Meanwhile DC Dimapur Rajesh Soundararajan IAS has imposed total restriction on all movement from Chathe River Bridge (Patkai Bridge) to Kukidolong from 6 am to 10 pm on September 20 for restoration works.
In a circular, the DC said the restriction has been imposed as preventive measures to attend to highway restoration works and to avoid loss of life, property and other injuries.
The DC informed that alternative route for light vehicles only is available via 7th Mile – New DC office – Shokhuvi – Razaphe – Mhaikam – Pimla – Mhainamtsi – Jhornapani/Medziphema and vice versa. (Page News Service)
