Rio graces Khelo India for PwDs, assures financial support


Dimapur, April 6: Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio graced the State Games 2018 closing ceremony KHELO India for Person with Disabilities (PwDs), Nagaland as the chief guest today at Old Showba Baptist Church Dimapur.
Rio in his speech lauded the efforts of the office bearers and organisers for taking care of the PwDs by organising the event with a very apt motto: “Let me win, but if I cannot win, Let me be brave in the attempt.”
He remarked that world over, sports is being taken very seriously and therefore sports persons are considered as one of the most favourite and liked persons. He appreciated the commendable exemplary commitment and patience undertaken by the coaches and various organisations spending hours and hours in nurturing the potentials and talents of PwDs.
He said dealing with PwDs needs special care and extra attention with love not only from parents and coaches but the society as a whole.
On the occasion, Rio informed that Nagaland would be announcing special fund for sports and assured that Government would include Special Olympic Nagaland (SON) under the ambit of Olympic Association Nagaland.
Rio suggested to the Advisor, Youth Resources and Sports, Er Zale Neikha, who was also present to undertake further study in promoting sports for both abled and disabled persons.
The chief guest also gave away the medals and certificates to the winning athletes .
SON area Director, Arenla Tzudir Ezung, appealed to the Government of the day for SON recognition by Nagaland Olympic Association and Sports department, cash award to all national and international medallist which includes 131 medals thus far, and for earmarking yearly budget for SON mission for 5 years starting from financial year 2018-19.
