Dimapur, July 16: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed grief at the death of Sochet Sosoly, the father of Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Pangnyu Phom, who passed away on July 15.
“Sochet Sosoly was amongst the first batch of converts to Christianity from his native village Yachem, and he also became the first Pastor of Yachem Baptist Church. His death is a great loss for the Phom community.
“However, the Phom community should praise God for giving them a good Christian leader at the crucial time, when Christianity was beginning to make inroads amongst the Phom community. His pioneering and faithful service for the Lord will continue to inspire believers for a long time to come”, read a message issued on Saturday.
Rio offered condolences to the bereaved family as well as to the Phom community.
In a separate message, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton also expressed deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family members.
“Sochet was involved in social activities throughout his life spanning several decades and leaves behind a good legacy. His demise is a great loss for the family and the people”, he stated.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Nagaland Legislative Union also mourned the demise. “Through his long life on earth and through the illustrious lives of his offspring, one can be certain of how faithfully and committedly he might have served the Lord!
“As we mourn his demise, we are comforted by the very truth that he is in a better place, in the loving arms of his Creator whom he has served very faithfully”, it stated. (Page News Service)
