DIMAPUR, AUGUST 21: Against the backdrop of the political tension in the State, top leaders of NDPP and BJP Nagaland met separately with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday.

Nagaland Chief Minister and NDPP founder, Neiphiu Rio tweeted saying he had a “fruitful discussion” regarding Naga political issue with Shah. “I am grateful to him for always being supportive of our collective effort for peace and development of Nagaland”, he said.
Also, the President of BJP Nagaland unit, Temjen Imna Along also tweeted that he along with Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, Y Patton had a meeting on August 20, with Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, and BJP National General Secretary BL Santhosh.
“We had an important discussion on matters associated with the political affairs of Nagaland as well as the Naga Political solution. I thank (the) Central leaders for their constant support and guidance for the welfare of the party at the State as well as the grassroots level”, he said.
However, neither said what transpired in their meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to reports, Shah had summoned both the parties to Delhi.

Of late, tension has seeped into the political alliance between NDPP and BJP in the State, following the formation of Nagaland United Government (NUG).
This all-party Government formed after the only Opposition party, NPF, had joined the ruling bench ~ a move engineered by Chief Minister Rio ~ is widely seen as an insecure Rio’s attempt to check the BJP.
While all the three parties and Independent Legislators have signed the agreement to form NUG, some section of the State BJP has openly opposed it.
Recently, the State President of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Benjamin Yepthomi had questioned whether the move behind the NUG was a ‘political agenda to fool Nagas by a Naga.’

“I, as a BJP party karyakarta, totally oppose this Opposition-less Government. It has nothing to do with the Naga solution. If having an Opposition-less Government will bring solution to the Nagas, then I guess all 60 MLAs should resign immediately and pave the way for the long-protracted Naga issue. On the pretext of Naga solution, no political party or elected MLA or anybody, should play political game for their own political mileage & political agenda”, he wrote in a Facebook post.
