Review security cover of top political leaders: NPCC

Dimapur, May 19: In the wake of the claim made by a hitman that he was contracted to kill a Nagaland based politician after the Lok Sabha elections, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has urged the Government of Nagaland to review security cover of top political leaders irrespective of party affiliations.
In a press release, the NPCC said the revelation made by the arrested contract killer and the amount paid to him proves “some politico-criminal nexus at highest level.”
Reminding that in the past few years, security cover for majority of opposition party leaders have either been scaled down or withdrawn in the name of austerity and low threat perceptions, the NPCC said in such a scenario, many political party leaders are left vulnerable to attacks from criminal elements.
With this shocking development, the State Government must ensure prophylactic security arrangements are put in place to deter any criminal minds from carrying out their dastardly act, it said.
The NPCC urged both Delhi Police and Nagaland Police for a thorough probe to unearth the masterminds behind the heinous conspiracy of attempting to eliminate political leaders. It also lauded the Nagaland Police to promptly deputing an IG rank officer to Delhi to be part of joint investigation with Delhi Police. (Page News Service)
