Review meeting for NEPEx held

Dimapur, April 25: A review meeting of Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) was held Wednesday at ATI. The programme was chaired by Secretary of Home Department, Rovilatuo (IAS). The meeting was conducted in view of the upcoming State wide mock drill which is to be held on April 26.
Speaking at the meeting, Joint Advisor (Ops), NDMA Dhirendra Singh Sindhu said that the mock drill will be held simultaneously in three North-East States – Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura on April 26 simulating the scenario of Shillong earthquake 1897 with 8.7 magnitude and epicenter designated at Main Boundary Thrust near Shillong. He said that the mock drill is to test the adequacy and efficiency of the emergency response plan and the roles and responsibilities that need to be carried out by different stake holders.
Speaking on behalf of the police department, DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma (IPS) suggested that some key roads of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung will be blocked during the drill to stimulate real time disaster. He also said the mock drill will test how vibrant and effective the State’s system is. He cautioned the public not to panic but to cooperate during the drill. He further suggested that the AHoDs and HoDs should brief their Departmental staff about the mock drill which will happen tomorrow.
The different stake holders that presented on their status of preparedness were: Fire and Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defense, Food & Civil Supplies, Transport, Airport, Agriculture, Health & Family Welfare, Information & Public Relation, Urban Development, Election Office, School Education, Dr. Ato from KOHIMAS Hospital, BSF, Assam Rifles, NDRF and Assam Observer.
Table top exercise held
Kohima: Table Top exercise for Kohima District was held today in preparation for Nagaland Emergency preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) in the DC’s conference hall, Kohima.
During interaction with the unit members for the mega mock drill to be conducted on April 26, the DC and chairman DDMA Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS called upon the various teams to extend cooperation and to discharge their roles and responsibilities in creating awareness to the general public on how to prepared oneself during the occurrence of natural calamities. He informed that the main staging area for mock emergency preparedness exercise for the district will be set up at Kohima Village Local, relief camp at Kohima Arts College and control room at DC Office Kohima. The other locations for the exercise will be at Christ King School, Mezhur Higher Secondary School, Directorate of Art Culture, Directorate of Employment Skill and Development, Directorate of Youth Resources and Sports, Directorate of Education, SIRD, Naga hospital, Oking hospital, Bethel hospital and Kohimas hospital. The exercise will begin at 10 am at various locations on April 26.
Peren: Table top exercise was held for the mega mock drill to be held on April 26, at Town Hall, Peren town today with different branches such as Incidents Response System, Operation Section, Planning Section, Logistic Section etc.
In the introductory speech, ADC Peren, Chubawati Chang stated that any kind of disaster usually occurs without any signs of warning. He said that the only solution is to be prepared. Disaster Management is the responsibility of everyone and disaster is a major concern all over the world, he added.
The resource persons were Vishal, SDPO Peren, Yanthungbemo, EAC Peren and Angunuo Mere EAC Peren.
Longleng: As part of mega mock drill to be conducted on April 26, table top exercise on NEPEx for Lonleng district was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner today in the DC’s conference hall.
The chairman highlighted about the table top exercise and the practical aspects of mega mock drill to be held on April 26. He informed that the Assam Rifles will be the observer of the NEPEx and informed the officers that defaulting departments will be reported to the higher authority.
Theja DPA, DDMA Longleng also briefed on the directions and guidelines of the NSDMA and asserted that three locations namely St. Joseph School, Phom Lampong School and old treasury office have been identified for conduct of the NEPEx on 26th.
After brief discussions and briefing on various respective activities of the line departments the DC directed the DPRO to give wide announcement in the town for the people to be aware of the mock drill and to avoid panic during the exercise. It was also decided to closure of shops and business establishment when the siren bell was sounded and to remain closed till the mock drill exercise was over.
