On death penalty for committing rape on a girl below the age of 12, your editorial, “A knee jerk response” (NP, April 28, 2018) has rightly said, “…there is all likelihood that most rapes would end up in murders as this would encourage perpetrators to destroy all signs of evidence including the victimised.” Indeed, a killer – rapist needs to get more punishment than a rapist. Such a distinction is necessary to restrict a rapist to killing the victim to avoid being accused by her.
When a rape has been culminated in murder by a criminal, it is a common error to brand him as a rapist. As a matter of fact, he should be called a killer – rapist and must get more punishment for his capital offence.
