Kohima, July 18: In the midst of rumours and speculation, flocking of BJP lawmakers led by Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton has added suspicion among the onlookers.
There are rumours doing the round that Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio is under pressure from the BJP after the landslide victory by the saffron party in the Parliamentary election. There are unconfirmed reports of rightwing Hindu political party demanding Rio for lion’s share in the ministry with plump portfolios.
In the centre of all rumours and speculation, Patton has flocked 8 BJP Legislators and is camping at Doyang hydro project in Wokha district.
But sources said BJP lawmakers are in Wokha to inaugurate three subsidiary Health Centres at Old Riphyim, Yikhum and Nyngying. They will inaugurate the Centres tomorrow. They were accorded rousing welcome at Satsuphen by the party workers of Wokha district.
There are rumours that saffron MLAs would discuss about the possibility of reshuffling a ministry where they would ask for plump portfolios.
Yesterday, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and BJP issued a joint statement claiming of being strong partners and continue to be. The statement was issued against the backdrop of Rio being under pressure from the BJP.
Observing the political scenario of the State after the political crisis in Karnataka and Goa, BJP leader in New Delhi are most unlikely to remain silent when it has 12 MLAs in the House of 60 in Nagaland Legislative Assembly. At the moment the saffron party is seen as a kingmaker as Naga People’s Front (NPF) has 26 MLAs; a strong opposition so far the State Assembly. The BJP has option whom to support and has a strong bargain chip with its 12 MLAs. The cock party would also not remain a lame duck with its 26 MLAs.
At the same time Rio is attempting to increase his party’s tally by poaching MLAs, like, as he did in the past. But BJP knows the past political dramas since 2003 when the 7 MLAs helped Rio to form the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Government, but the subsequent tenures saw how the saffron party was given least importance.
Lately, top state political leaders including Chief Minister, Rio have been meeting the central leaders of the saffron party in New Delhi.
Some BJP leaders claimed that there would be reshuffle of Rio ministry very soon. (Page News Service)
