Dimapur, November 19: The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) and Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has reminded the Department of Higher Education and the State Government to prioritize disbursement of second and final installment of Post Matric Scholarships to Scheduled Tribe students 2019-2020.
In a joint statement, the 2 unions stated that the Government of India, Minority of Tribal Affairs (Scholarship Division) has sanctioned Rs 32,26,37,000 towards 2nd installment for the year 2019-20 and 1st installment (25% of central share) for the year 2020-21 on September 18, 2020 but the Department of Higher Education has failed to disburse the 2nd and final installments till date.
While the requisite procedure to issue drawal authority is well understood, the union(s) will not remain mute observers when students’ interests are deliberately disregarded, it warned.
“The union(s) while understanding the undesirable circumstances faced by the government functionaries due to the global pandemic, is however unsatisfied with the sincerity of the government in regard to the scholarship matter.”
The 2 unions appealed to the State Government to understand the scholarship need by the students and immediately complete the requisite procedures to ensure that the 2nd and final installments of PMS ST 2019-2020 is disbursed to the students within the next 10 days.
