Ravi orders action against ‘seditious’ govt employees

R N Ravi

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 7: Governor RN Ravi has reportedly ordered criminal proceedings to be initiated against all State Government employees who write “seditious and subversive” posts on social media platforms.

According to an Asian Age report, Ravi has also recommended dismissal of officers from service, on disciplinary grounds.
Directing the Chief Secretary to take stern action against State Government employees whose writings challenge the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country, T Mahabemo Yanthan, the Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, said in his letter, “I have been directed to request the State Government to take serious cognizance of such misconduct and initiate appropriate legal and disciplinary action against the delinquent government servants.”
The letter also directed all the heads of departments to sensitise State Government employees in this regard, the report added.
Citing the instance of one Dr. H Inato Jimomi Naga, serving in the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Yanthan reportedly wrote: “Such acts of government servant constitute serious offences under the penal laws and also gross misconduct under the service conduct rules inviting criminal prosecution and disciplinary action including dismissal from service.”
The report also cited Security sources as having said that Jimomi’s social media post justifying the demand for sovereign Nagaland was still in circulation on various social media platforms, and there have been numerous instances of State Government employees “voicing separatist sentiments openly”.
The Governor’s letter was also marked to Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla for necessary action, it stated.
According to the report, Nagaland Government sources said that departmental proceedings have already been initiated against Jimomi. (Page News Service)
