PWD covered repair work of 70kms prioritized roads: Ozukum

Kohima, September 18: Nagaland Minister for Public Works Department, Tongpang Ozukum on Tuesday said that the department has prioritized 116.455 kms of district headquarter roads in the state for repair and maintenance.
Replying to the queries in the Assembly, Minister Ozukum said that the state has a total of 1110 kms major district roads out of which the department has prioritized 116.455 kms of road for immediate repair.
He said that till date 70.801 kms of road have been covered while remaining 45.654 kms would be taken up after the monsoon season.
He said that the department has been allocated Rs 50 crore for the repair of major road but the government released Rs 25 crore in the first phase with which work was executed departmentally.
He also informed the House that the government recently released the second installment of Rs 25 and the amount would be utilised to execute works for the remaining 45.654 kms of prioritized roads after the monsoon season.
He said that the department is in the process of coming up with the comprehensive road policy and constituted Road Maintenance Task Force to work on it.
Opposition MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu while expressing dissatisfaction on the reply of the Minister said that that the PWD has twisted the answers to cover up their mistake.
Replying to another supplementary by MLA Y Vikheho Swu, the Minister said that the current fund were meant for the major roads in the district headquarters and have been allocated accordingly while funds for the PWD divisions throughout the state would be distributed once the annual road maintenance fund is released.
On MLA Yitachu’s request, Ozukum assured to lay before the House on Thursday the names of the roads being taken up on priority basis in every district. (Page News Service)
