Paris, October 27: India’s singles challenge at the French Open BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament ended with shuttlers PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal losing their respective quarterfinal matches.
Defending champion Srikanth suffered straight games 16-21, 19-21 defeat at the hands of World No. 1 Kento Momota of Japan in the last eight clash.
Srikanth slumped to his fifth straight loss this year against the Japanese opponent.
Srikanth’s last defeat against Momota came in the semi-finals of the Denmark Open last week.
Rio Olympics silver medallist Sindhu, who is going through a difficult phase after winning the silver medal in the Jakarta Asian Games, lost to He Bingjiao of China 13-21, 16-21.
It was Sindhu’s second consecutive loss at the hands of the Chinese shuttler this year after her straight-game defeat in Indonesia Open in July. By virtue of this win, Bingjiao extended her head-to-head record to 7-5 against the Indian.
World No. 2 Sindhu had made a first-round exit at the Denmark Open last week. She was knocked out in the second round of the Japan Open after a straight-game loss to Gao Fangjie. (TNN)
