Dimapur, January 26: In the midst of empty stands, high security and only one cultural performance, the 70th Republic Day was observed on Saturday here at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur. The lone cultural performance was put up by the Dimasa Kacharis.
Minister for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Metsubo Jamir, who had unfurled the national flag on the occasion said that the government is concerned with the issue of the Citizenship Amendment Bill which was recently passed by the Lok Sabha, but the government is also of the unequivocal view that the bill is not applicable to Nagaland and Nagas are protected under the provision of Article 371 (A) and Inner Line Permit mechanism.
After the call of various student bodies to boycott the Republic Day celebration in the state to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 that facilitates illegal immigrants belonging to minority religions from neighboring countries to have Indian citizenship, on Saturday morning, students from the different schools abstained from being a part of the celebration unlike other years. Most of the schools also chose to not observe the day and were kept closed.
The NCC Cadets also weren’t present in the ground and there were only eight contingents in the parade.
Besides students, the general public also didn’t take part in the celebration and the streets remained mostly vacant in the early hours of the day. Unlike other years, no other cultural troupe except one performed during the district level celebration and the few who attended the programme were mostly government officials.
Various unions and organizations which had plans to observe the day in a formal celebration cancelled the plans after the call for the boycott. Nevertheless, the celebration passed peacefully in the district.
Afternoon programme included football match between Dobashis, Dimapur District and GB’s Union Dimapur, prize distribution and beating of retreat by 5 Assam Rifles, Dimapur.
Longleng: In Longleng the 70th Republic Day was celebrated with Tongpang Ozukam Minister of Public Works Department, Government of Nagaland as the Special Guest on 26th January 2019 at Local Football Ground, Longleng.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister recalled the historic day back in 1950 where the people of India adopted a Constitution that made India into a Sovereign, Republic nation and become one of the most vibrant and strong democracies with fastest growing nations of the world.
Asserting that the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 is not applicable to Nagaland because our state stands protected under the provision of Article 371 (A) of Constitution of India and the Inner Line Permit Mechanism as per Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 which was reaffirmed as clause 16 of the 16 Point Agreement he said his Government has decided to refer the Bill to the standing Committee on Article 371 (A) under the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to examine the issues in its entirety and further appealed to the Government of India to have wider consultations with all North Eastern States to ensure that the rights of the indigenous people are fully protected.
Earlier the Chief Guest unfurled the National Flag and took salute from four contingents comprised of the DEF Longleng and three other Village Guards contingents.
The other highlights of the program included Tug of war between DBs and GBs, Volleyball exhibition match and inspection of stalls by the Special Guest.
Along with the rest of the country Phek celebrated the 70th Republic Day at local ground on 26th January 2019 with the Minister for PHED, Jacob Zhimomi graced as the special guest. He unfurled national flag, took Rastriya salute from the parade contingents of 22nd AR Phek, DEF Phek, 5th NAP, Home Guard and Pipe piper band from 22nd AR Phek.
A special presentation was given by Grace while other highlights included folk dance from Kutsapo village cultural troupe, folk song by Hebron-1 colony youth and Pochury Mothers Union Phek town.
The special guest inaugurated exhibition stalls & organic bazaar put up by Agriculture department, Veterinary department, Rural Development Department, Sericulture department, Election department, Phek Government College, Horticulture Department and Legal Service Authority. Officers club visited district jail inmates and district hospital.
In the evening programme a tug of war was played between DC Office, Phek, 22nd AR, DEF Phek, 5th NAP Phek Other Departments Officers (HODs) Phek town chairman ward & GBs and Phek town youth society. Beating of retreat was done by 22nd Assam Rifles Bn. Phek.
Peren: With the rest of the country, Peren celebrated 70th Republic Day with Minister for Agriculture and Co-operation, G. Kaito Aye at Multi-Disciplinary Outdoor Complex, Peren on 26th January 2018. The Minister unfurled the National flag followed by Inspection of Parade Contigents and delivered his Republic Day speech. Assistant Commandant, K. Soriso was the Commander of the parade contingents comprising of DEF Peren, 9 (IR)B, Sainik School Punglwa and 36 Assam Rifles Jalukie. Highlights of the function were Band Display by 36 Assam Rifles Pipe band, Peren District Music Society, Cultural Dance by New Jalukie, Inbung Village Cultural troupe and Kejanglwa Choir. The function was compered by Itogongle and Ngautube.
Tuensang: Along with the rest of the Nation Tuensang celebrated the 70th Republic Day on 26th Jan 2019 with Neiba Kronu, Minister Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue as the special guest at the Parade Ground Tuensang. Parade review was done by SP Tuensang with total of six contingents and two pipe bands, namely: DEF, 3rd NAP. VG Ngangpong, VG Kuthur, Home Guards and Civil Defense and Ex- Serviceman along with 3rd NAP Pipe Band and Hauhyang Choba Pipe Band with Parade Commander Repjan Yangba Asst. Commandant 3rd NAP and Yanghori ABSI as second-in -command.
District Commendation awards were awarded to P. Leyang Khaim Fishery Demonstrator, Imti Chuba Chang Fishery grade IV, H. Pongom Khiam ASI SP Office Tuensang, Naik S. Makamchim Naik SP Office Tuensang, H Jonathan Sangtam LDA CMO Office Tuensang, N. Thangsoi Khiam DBGr-1 DC office Tuensang, Yongkhong Ngaku DB Gr-2 DC Office Tuensang, B. Chaba Chang Sawyer DC office and department of Fire and Emergency Services Tuensang.
Cleanest ward competition 2018 for Tuensang Town were bagged by Officers Ward in the first position, Bazaar -A and St John -B in the second and third positions respectively.
For the year of 2018-19 the following person/group were selected by ATMA for their outstanding performance in various farming enterprise; women society SHG Longkhim Block for vegetable farming, Shobe Agri and Allied Co-operative Society for Mixed Farming on group category, N. Sipong Chang for cardamom cultivation, Chaangsomba for Fish farming, Z. Nangcho for Cardamom Cultivation and Hojungse Sangtam for Integrated farming.
The number of cultural troupes present in the 70th Republic Day at Tuensang were Chang Cultural troupe, Khiamniungan cultural troupe, Sangtam cultural troupe, Yimchunger Cultural troupe and Heri cultural troupe. The chief guest also inspected the departmental stall installed at the Parade Ground.
Wokha: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated at Wokha local ground with Mister for Health & Family Welfare, S.Pangnyu Phom as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering during the celebration, the Minister said, while the quest for a final settlement continues, the Government is also committed to ensure good governance and development in the state. The government is committed to keep citizens as the prime focus.
He also stated that the law and order the state is by and large peaceful, Police and Administration have taken remarkable steps in strengthening law enforcement mechanism and security to the citizens.
Altogether four parade contingents, DEF, 7th NAP, Civil Defense and Home Guards, Ex-Service Man and 28Assam Rifles Pipe band took part in the march past. Other highlight of the celebration included folk song and folk dance by Wokha town Eloe Erame cultural troupe and Lotha Naga Society Wokha village unit.
Feeding of inmates were also carried out by IRCS at Jail, Mhondamo memorial hospital by DPMC (Planning), Dr.Motsuo Memorial district hospital by Wokha district Chambers of Commerce & Industries and 28th Assam Rifles by Mt.Tiyi College, Wokha. Exhibition Cricket match was also played between DPDB members and Sr.Noble Klan.
Mon: Minister, Soil & Water Conservation, Geology & Mining, Government of Nagaland V.Kashiho Sangtam hoisted the National flag at Local ground, Mon Hq on January 26 during the Republic Day celebration 2019.
The special guest in his speech mentioned that, since the creation of Nagaland as a state of Indian Union in 1963, we continue as a partner in the development and progress of the nation. In order to protect and safeguard our historic and unique cultural traditions and customary practices, special constitutional provision under Article 371 (A) were incorporated in the constitution of India. This Special Provision not only safeguards the right of the people of Nagaland but also given opportunity for the people of Nagaland to grow and develop according to their own genius.
Kashiho also stated that education and welfare of our students is one of the most important priorities of the government. We are committed to the welfare of farmers and promotion of Horticulture and allied Agriculture activities for doubling the income of farmers and we are focusing on organic farming to ensure better returns for the farmers, he added.
He also mentioned that on 7th January 2019, International Trade Fair and Expo was inaugurated in Mon District with an objective to promote trade, business and entrepreneurship in the district.
The chief guest took salutes from 6th NAP BN, DEF Mon, Women Police DEF Mon, Village Guard, Ex-Serviceman and Band Party 6th NAP BN.
S.Tiamongba Ao, Asst. Commandant 6th NAP Bn was Parade Commander, ABI Ngampong DEF Mon as Parade 2 i/c, Hav Tankai DEF Mon as Parade CHM. Later, the special guest inaugurated the department stalls.
In the evening session, Thavasselan K, IAS Deputy Commissioner Mon was the special guest. Other highlights included football exhibition match between District Sports Council Mon and Officers Club, Mon which was followed by prize distribution. 6th NAP Pipe Band displayed beating of the retreat.
To mark the occasion, District Hospital Mon was visited by Education Department, Sub-Jail by Veterinary Department and Rehab Centre by Wangkhao Govt College, Mon.
Kiphire: Greeting the people of Nagaland on the auspicious occasion of the nation’s 70th Republic Day at Kiphire Local ground, on 26th January 2019. Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher & Technical Education read the Republic Day’s speech.
Temjen Imna Along mentioned that during the last cabinet meeting which was convened in the aspirational district of Kiphire, the house decided to extend the model of better monitoring and supervision of government schemes in all districts by identifying one aspirational Block in each of the remaining ten districts.
The special guest also inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up by 10 different departments under Kiphire district.
Altogether five parade contingents took part in the march past. The parade contingents included 7th Assam Rifles, DEF Kiphire, Village Guard, Ex-Servicemen and Kisetong Village Guard Band party.
In the evening, exhibition football match was played between Kiphire XI vs Veteran Football club XI. The day-long celebration was ended with the beating of Retreat by DEF Kiphire.
Zunheboto: Along with rest of the country, Zunheboto district celebrated the 70th Republic Day at the public ground. On the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Home and National Highways, Y. Patton unfurled the National Flag.
Four contingents participated in the ceremonial parade namely: DEF Zunheboto, 8 NAP, Home Guards and Ex- serviceman. Other highlights included special number by 8 NAP Naltoqa Orchestra, tug of war by GBs and DBs. The Deputy CM also inaugurated and visited various stalls set up by different departments.
Mokokchung: Along with the rest of the country, the 70th Republic Day was celebrated today at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung with Minister for Transport, Civil Aviation & Railways & Land Resources, Nagaland, P. Paiwang Konyak as the special guest. The Minister after the ceremonial unfurling of the National Flag delivered the Republic Day Speech.
Other highlights of the programme included dog show by Takowati, Rtd. Inspector, NAP; Cultural Dance by Khensa Cultural Troupe; Cultural Songs by Naga Wadir Club, Ungma and Dance by Grokha Union, Mokokchung.
After the programme, the Chief Guest inaugurated the District Exhibition Stalls being organized by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung in collaboration with DRDA, PHED, PWD (Housing), Agri and Allied Departments and District Administration.
Altogether five contingents took part during the march past with Dy. SP, Lipoktemsu, DEF Mokokchung as Parade Commander.
