Dimapur, November 29: The Public Convention on Future Course of Action today resolved to oppose the Government of India to create any kind of Autonomous Territorial Council in Manipur based on ethnic lines as the consequence of the peace talk with NSCN (IM) as it was reflected in the intention of the Union Home Minister during the deliberations with Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) delegation in New Delhi.
Considering the verbal assurance given by Union Home Minister, Amit Shah to a 18-member COCOMI delegation that Government of Manipur, Opposition Parties and Civil Society organizations would be consulted in case anything to affect Manipur is to be included in the Final Agreement of peace talks with NSCN (IM), is not acceptable to the people of Manipur as it does not imply the consent of people of Manipur. In the light of this, it was resolved that the Government of India be requested to take the consent of the people through Government of Manipur and CSOs involved and to make a statement to this effect in the ongoing Parliament session.
The Convention further resolved to continue the ongoing Peoples’ Movement to protect Manipur’s unity and integrity.
It also resolved to demand the Government of Manipur to summon a Special Session of Manipur Legislative Assembly before December 10 acknowledging the agreed points discussed with the Union Home Minister.
The Convention stated that the issue of ethnic harmony and administrative setup for the inclusive benefit of the people of Manipur should not be decided by GoI or a section of Manipur society, but by mutual discussion among the various communities residing in the state. (Page News Service)
