Dimapur, May 26: The Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) has appealed to the Government of Nagaland to take immediate measures to ensure that returnees from outside the State are promptly sent to their respective District headquarters without retaining them for 3 days at Kohima.
Only residents and domicile of Kohima town and district be accommodated in the quarantine centres of the district, said an appeal issued by AKMWP president Neibulie Keiwhuo, general secretary Thejao Sekhose and legal advisor & joint secretary Hukato Chishi.
The AKMWP said the logic behind retaining returnees of eight districts at Kohima for 3 days observation, only to be dispatched for further 14 days institutional quarantine at their respective district headquarters is dumbfounding and can no longer be tolerated.
The AKMWP maintained that the institutional quarantine centres in Kohima are being overwhelmed due to excessive intake on compulsion. “The arrival and detection of a COVID-19 patient in Kohima and the already stretched manpower and resources cannot, under any circumstance, be allowed to give way and wreak havoc on the general populace,” it said.
The AKMWP said it is clear that the authorities at the highest levels of the State Government will understand this imminent danger and act responsibly to ensure that COVID-19 do not spill out to the people from quarantine centres.
“We are hopeful that the government of the day understands that the residents of the state capital have extended every possible help and cooperation to the Government proclaiming that the mission to safeguard out denizens, including govt. servants from Corona virus is the joint responsibility of the state govt. and its agencies, individuals and the AKMWP and its constituent members. Our continued support and cooperation largely stands on this pillars of mutual trust,” it added. (Page News Service)
