Promptly resume repair & construction of roads along NH 2: SAYO to NHIDCL

NH 2

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 17: The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has asked the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to promptly resume repair works and construction of roads along National Highway 02.
In a letter to the General Manager of NHIDCL, SAYO stated that the National Highway 02 stretch between Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, and Khuzama Police check-post was in deplorable condition after being left neglected and lying in shambles.
“The NH stretch serves as the main road connectivity for the people of the Southern Angami Villages and various districts connecting us to the capital town and to the rest of the State. It is also noteworthy to mention that the highway provides connectivity to the Dzükuo Valley which is a tourist hotspot attracting local, domestic and international tourists throughout the year.
“The road stretch also serves as a lifeline for the neighbouring State of Manipur where travellers, passengers and heavy vehicles carrying goods are plying on a daily basis. However, the road stretch from Kigwema to Khuzama Village has been left in a dilapidated state for a long time, and foremostly the stretch from Jakhama till Khuzama Village is in a hazardous state making driving unpleasant and unsafe for drivers and commuters”, the letter read.
SAYO recalled that repair works and construction of roads were undertaken in November, 2021 just before the Hornbill Festival and Statehood Day “but the preceding stretch was halted after the event commenced and till date no work was sighted further”.
It asked the NHIDCL and the contractors responsible for undertaking the work to take prompt remedial steps in response and expedite the repair works “to ensure pliable serviceable roads without delay”.
SAYO also appealed to the State Government to intervene and look into the matter for the welfare of the public.
“However, if any accident or untoward incident occurs because of the hazardous road condition, the agency responsible for maintaining the road will be liable and could reasonably anticipate the result from the dangerous condition”, it added.
