Priestly ordination conducted at Chumukedima

Priestly ordained

Dimapur, December 29: Reverend Deacon Mathew Neni Koso was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Kohima on December 29 at St. Joseph’s Parish, Chümoukedima by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima. The motto of the new priest is “You have the words of Eternal Life” (Lk 6:68).
Deacon Mathew Neni dressed in traditional Mao attire came in procession to the Church with Bishop James, priests and family members. The community humming and singing in traditional tunes led the procession.
Bishop in his introduction said it is a red letter day for the Catholic community of St. Joseph’s Parish, Chumoukedima to the diocese of Kohima and also for Deacon Mathew Neni, because he will be ordained a priest. As a priest he will set apart and consecrated to God’s work and His mission, he said.
In his homily, Bishop also explained the prophetic, pastoral and priestly role of a priest. The bishop exhorted Deacon Mathew to remember that it is to be his life-work to lift up Jesus Christ before men, so that He may draw them unto Him. He concluded the homily by thanking, particularly, the family and relatives of Fr. Mathew for offering him to God and to the Church.
The programme witnessed special items like congratulation song by the St. Joseph Parish Youth. Words of exhortation and encouragement were pronounced by Bishop and Johny Raungmei, president, Catholic Association of Nagaland. (Page News Service)
