Power Minister stresses on boosting power generation in Nagaland

KOHIMA, JULY 9: Nagaland Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye has stressed on the long pending need to boost power generation in the State which has a potential of about 1000MW.
However, he expressed disappointment that no hydro project was sanctioned lately despite much effort by the State Government.
In this regard, he made a fervent request to the Union Minister to consider for development of at least 500MW of hydro projects in Nagaland.
Kenye was speaking during the conference of Power Ministers of North-Eastern States & Sikkim held today at Guwahati under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Power, Housing & Urban
Affairs, Manohar Lal, stated a release issued by Wabangmeren Jamir, Chief Engineer (D&R) & HoD, Department of Power.
Kenye also requested the Union Minister of Power to give NE States some relaxation in the guidelines for implementing Central Sponsored Schemes with particular reference to the RDSS scheme, he said.
Kenye also reiterated the pending request of Nagaland for the Lineman Training Centre building infrastructure under the CBIS of NERPSIP to which the Union Minister of Power agreed to provide the same.
Jamir said the meeting reviewed ongoing schemes in the North-Eastern States and deliberated on various issues of generation, transmission, distribution and power sector reforms in the region.
The meeting also emphasized on measures to promote ease of living and power adequacy plan, he said.
Minister Kenye was accompanied by Secretary (Power) Asangla Imti, Chief Engineer (D&R) Jamir and Chief Engineer (T&G) Kasho Chishi.
